First-Fix Rewire in York
New cable drops, back boxes and first-fix wiring ready for plaster
The Brief
A home near York needed a full rewire. These photos show the first-fix stage of the job, the part of a rewire that happens before any plastering or decorating, when all the new cables go into the walls and under the floors.
What We Did
The first-fix work included:
- Chased the walls: Cut neat channels into the walls for new cable drops to each light switch and socket position.
- Set the back boxes: Fitted new back boxes for switches and sockets, including sockets at skirting level.
- Ran the new cables: Lifted floorboards to run new cables under the floors and up into each chased drop, keeping runs tidy and out of the way.
- Left it ready for plaster: Every new cable was put in place and every box set, so the walls can be made good without coming back to the wiring.
The Result
With first fix done, the walls are ready for the plasterer. Once the plaster is on, second fix follows: fitting the new switches, sockets and lights and connecting everything up. The whole installation is then tested, and Part P certification is issued once the work is complete.
